Polymer granules with silver nanoparticles

Polymeric additive granular superconcentrate: polyethylene and polypropylene.

It contains silver nanoparticles at a high concentration of 1000 ppm.

The additive can be introduced into the bulk of the raw material during the production of products from polymers of the polyolefin group. The percentage of additive input is 0.5 - 2% of the total mass of the used polymer.


The additive provides the final products with an active biocidal or bacteriostatic effect.


A series of antimicrobial materials with inorganic additives (silver based) based on a technology that consists of introducing metallic silver into a soluble matrix. The matrix simultaneously protects the silver ions during processing and regulates their release. In these systems, silver ions are localized in the matrix and are released only as a result of the gradual hydrolysis of the matrix material upon contact with moisture. The high stability of the matrix makes it possible to successfully use silver ion systems in many polymers. This technology is quite flexible and allows the development of products for specific applications by changing the composition and size of particles, chemical stability, changing the solubility of the matrix, by controlling the process of ion release.

The antibacterial effect is achieved due to the active silver ions Ag+ in the structure of the plastic surface, to which bacteria cannot adapt and die.


The antimicrobial effect is manifested during the entire period of operation of products with silver ions. At the same time, silver ions do not affect the composition of the contents that are in the product.


Residual levels of atmospheric moisture, combined with the hydrolytic reactivity of the additive, bring silver ions to the surface of the product, thereby preventing the formation of bacterial colonies on the surface and further penetration of bacteria inside.


Ion-silver systems have low toxicity, which allows them to be used in medical, food and cosmetic products. Utensils made of polymeric plastics with the addition of metallic silver have an antibacterial effect.
